Collection

The collection of the Museum consists of approximately 17,000 craft works. They are new and old, made in Japan and also in various countries. Among them, ceramics, wood works and paintings of Joseon Dynasty in the Korean Peninsula, Japanese old ceramics of Tamba, Karatsu, Imari and Seto, katsugi and sashiko kimonos of the Tohoku region, costumes and glass beads of the Ainu, Otsu-e, Mokujiki sculptures, ceramics and woven/dyed textiles of Okinawa, old slipware of Great Britain are highly acclaimed for its quantity and quality both inside and outside Japan. Besides, works by the early members of Mingei Movement like Bernard Leach, Shoji Hamada, Kanjiro Kawai, Keisuke Serizawa and Shiko Munakata are housed.
